TURTLE MOUNTAINS/DELORAINE, MB — May 25, 2026 — Métis community leader, cultural advocate, and Turtle Mountain Métis Local Chair Chris Leforte has officially entered the race for Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) Regional Executive Officer, filing his nomination papers today.
Known for his deep commitment to community service, youth mentorship, cultural revitalization, and land-based learning, Leforte says his decision to run is rooted in a lifelong commitment to serving Métis citizens and strengthening communities across the region.
“I’m putting my name forward because I believe leadership starts by listening and showing up for community,” said Leforte. “Our citizens deserve strong representation, open communication, and leadership rooted in respect, accountability, and action. I want to continue working alongside our people to support youth, honour our Elders, protect our culture, and ensure Métis voices continue to be heard.”
Leforte currently serves as Chair of the Turtle Mountain Métis Local, first elected in 2022 and re-elected in 2026. He is also a Traditional Knowledge Keeper with both the Brandon School Division and Southwest Horizon School Division, where he has supported cultural programming, Indigenous graduation celebrations, mentorship, and land-based learning opportunities for youth.
Throughout his years of service, Leforte has led and supported hunting camps, trapping camps, cultural programming, and mentorship opportunities designed to strengthen Métis identity, pride, and connection to culture. He also serves as Property Manager of the MMF Turtle Mountain Harvesting Property and remains actively involved in environmental stewardship and community leadership through numerous organizations and committees.
Leforte says his campaign will focus on strengthening communication and accountability, supporting youth and future leaders, protecting Métis culture and harvesting traditions, respecting and supporting Elders, environmental stewardship, and building stronger connections between communities.
“Everything I’ve done has been rooted in community,” said Leforte. “I believe our future is strongest when we invest in our youth, honour our Elders, protect our culture, and work together. This campaign is about listening to citizens, bringing people together, and ensuring our communities remain strong for generations to come.”
Leforte is encouraging citizens throughout the region to connect, share their priorities, and be part of the conversation throughout the campaign.
